It doesn’t matter if you’re a full-time resident of Media, PA or if you are just visiting – there is always something going on in this small town known as “Everybody’s Hometown”!
The Hedgerow Theatre
Founded in 1923, this organization is dedicated to the art of storytelling. Not only are fabulous productions put on for the entire community to enjoy, but the organization also encourages creativity in children by hosting acting classes, summer camps, and performance classes.
One of the yearly performance includes an incredible rendition of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol. This is the perfect place to celebrate the holiday season with loved ones!
Tyler Arboretum
Another great place for nature lovers, the arboretum dates back to the time of William Penn! Visitors can check out treehouses, a butterfly house, and a meadow maze! Special exhibits are rotated through regularly and there are some events that are open to members only.
The arboretum also provides summer camps and other educational programs for both children and adults! Be sure to sign up for their e-newsletter in order to stay up-to-date on all of the latest offerings.
Sapovits Park
This beautiful four-acre park is named after Nether Providence’s longest-serving commissioner, Morris Sapovits. The park includes a baseball field, basketball court, playground, soccer fields, picnic tables, and grills.
If you’re looking for an outdoor area where you and your family can have some fun in the sun, consider Sapovits!
Ridley Creek State Park
Ridley Creek State Park is absolutely massive with a full 2,600 acres for visitors to enjoy. Nature lovers can enjoy walking trails, can go for a horseback ride, and can even fly fish in Ridley Creek which is stocked with trout.
Don’t let winter weather stop you from enjoying all the park has to offer – many choose to go cross country skiing or tobogganing when it snows!
For the newly engaged, Ridley Creek offers a hunting mansion known as Parque that is as beautiful inside as it is out. Imagine taking photographs by the reflecting pond or under the cedar trees.
Wherever your interests lie, be sure to add Ridley Creek to your list!
Linvilla Orchards
Open for more than 100 years, Linvilla is a place of utter delight. Here you can fish, visit a haunted house, pick your own apples or pumpkins, cut down your own Christmas tree (or just pick one out), shop a farmer’s market, and enjoy a beer garden.
Gardeners will love the plant selection at Linvilla and will likely return home with more than they intended to purchase!
Private events can be hosted at Linvilla, which has great spaces for both adults and children.
The Pennsylvania Veterans Museum
The Pennsylvania Veterans Museum is “dedicated to preserving, protecting and promoting the legacy and dignity of all veterans of the United States military.”
In addition to exhibits about events like the Vietnam War, D-Day, Korean War, Women in War, the U.S. Army Air Corps, and Naval Battles, the museum also offers documentary films and lesson plans.
The hope is that all information can be a way for future generations to learn about history so that history won’t repeat.
After a long day of visiting some of these popular spots, consider enjoying a lovely meal in downtown Media, which has so much to offer! If you’re out and about in the summer on a Wednesday, think about making a reservation for Dining Under The Stars! Then you and your loved ones can relax, eat and drink, and talk about all of the great things you learned that day.
