The township is located in the southeastern region of Delaware County within the state of Pennsylvania. Within the township are the census-designated places, CDP, of Woodlyn and Folsom. History
The township was named by one of the original settlers in the area, John Simcock. Simcock was an immigrant from Ridley, Cheshire, England, and for this, he named the area. The name dates back as far as 1684 when used by the court records as tax collectors were selected for the town.
Both the Continental and the British armies marched through the town. Even General George Washington came through the town with his soldiers on his way to battle General Howe in Wilmington, Delaware. Howe was a Commander-in-Chief of British land forces in the Colonies during the war. Following the Battle of Brandywine, General George Washington stayed with John McIlvain, a sawmill owner, in Crum Creek. The house is said to still stand to this day. The troops camped along the road during this time.
